Arizona adds new Open Division to high school football playoffs

The Arizona high school football playoffs will have a different look in 2019 with the addition of an Open Division to its playoff structure.

On Tuesday, the Arizona Interscholastic Association announced that the Open Division will feature eight teams from the 6A, 5A and 4A classification based on computer rankings system. Teams that don’t qualify for the Open Division will be placed into 16-team playoffs in 6A, 5A and 4A.
