Arizona proposing starting high school football regular season September 11

The Arizona Interscholastic Association is looking at starting the 2020 high school football season during the week of September 7, which would make the first Friday night September 11.

Below is a preliminary outline from the AIA website:

For 2A-6A, an 8-10 game schedule can be achieved by starting competition on the week of Sept. 7. The current playoff structure may have to be adjusted after input from the membership. 1A football is currently looking at modifications, if necessary.

The new plan is based on the state opening classes on August 17.

Originally, the 2020 high school football season was set for August 21.
