As the Apalachee High School (Georgia) community continues to heal from the tragic shooting earlier this month, the National Football League‘s Atlanta Falcons honored the school’s football team at Sunday night’s game against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Ricky Aspinwall, a math teacher at the school and the team’s defensive coordinator, was one of four killed during the shooting.
The Falcons hosted the entire team and named two players, Â Favian Williford and Jason White, as honorary captains, who took part in the opening coin toss.
The sellout crowd gave the team a standing ovation when the team was shown on the video boards at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The team has not played a game since the shooting. Last Monday, the team returned to the practice field for the first time since the mass shooting. The Wildcats are scheduled to play a road game this Friday at Clarke Central in Athens.
