Batavia’s Dennis Piron named Chicago Bears Week 2 Coach of the Week

The Chicago Bears announced today that head coach Dennis Piron of Batavia High School in Batavia has been named the Chicago Bears High School “Coach of the Week” for Week 2 and wide receiver Kaiden Miller of Grayslake Central High School in Grayslake was named the Chicago Bears “High School All-Star.” The “Coach of the Week” and “High School All-Stars” programs are brought to you by Athletico Physical Therapy. The Bears will make a $2,000 donation to the Batavia HS football program and direct a $500 donation to the youth football program of Miller’s choice.

About “Coach of the Week” & “High School All-Star”

The Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program was launched in 1996 and “High School All-Star” program in 2011. The “Coach of the Week” program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players’ football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities. The nomination criteria for the “High School All-Star” program includes on-field performance, community involvement and good sportsmanship. Deserving high school coaches and players are nominated by a panel of local prep authorities and the winning player is selected each week from August 27-October 23. Since the program’s inception, the Bears have donated more than $326,500 to Illinois high schools in support of their football programs. Dennis Piron

Piron and the Bulldogs (2-0) overcame a 13-0 halftime deficit to post a 21-13 victory at Oswego (0-2), marking Piron’s 100th career win as Batavia’s head coach. A graduate of Batavia HS, Piron has been the team’s head football coach for 11 years, notching an 100-17 record and winning the state championship twice during that time. Piron also leads Batavia’s INCubator Entrepreneurship Program and coaches track. The Bulldogs host Wheaton North (2-0) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Kaiden Miller

The junior wide receiver helped lead the Rams (2-0) to a 34-33 win at Mundelein (1-1) last Friday and set a single-game school record with 267 receiving yards. He scored a touchdown with 14 seconds left before Grayslake Central completed a two-point conversion for the win. Miller also caught a Rams record-setting 96-yard touchdown and collected seven tackles and two pass breakups on defense. Grayslake Central will host Grayslake North (0-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
