Belle Vernon used a last second goal line stand to capture its first-ever Pennsylvania high school football state championship.

Clinging to a 9-8 lead on Neumann-Goretti, the Leopards needed to stop the Saints, who were one-yard away from taking the lead with under a win to play. That’s when the BV defense caused Neumann-Goretti quarterback Mekhi Wharton to fumble. Belle Vernon’s Aiden Johnson recovered the fumble to give the school it’s first-ever state football title.
