Bishop Guilfoyle wins Pennsylvania 1A championship

After a 1-2 start, Bishop Guilfoyle is a Pennsylvania high school football champ. The Marauders, who won three straight state titles from 2014-2016, captured the state’s Class 1A state championship Thursday with a 21-14 win over Redbank Valley at HersheyPark Stadium.

After leading throughout, BG’s Cooper Rother scored the game-winning touchdown with 3:21 to go in the game.

In the first quarter, Bishop Guilfoyle quarterback Karson Kiesewetter’s 1-yard sneak gave the Marauders a 7-0 lead that they took into halftime.

In the third quarter, Redbank Valley tied the game at 7-7 on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Bryson Bain to Marquese Gardlock.

Bishop Guilfoyle regained the lead at 14-7 on the 57-yard catch-and-carry between Keisewetter and Anthony Cioffari.

Redbank Valley tied the game up late at 14-14 when Bain and Gardlock hooked-up on their second score.

Bishop Guilfoyle finishes the season with an 11-4 record, while Redbank Valley, the District 9 champ, ends with a 13-2 mark.
