It was quite an opening week with the two highest ranked teams in our preseason rankings losing. With preseason No. 1 Lowndes and No. 2 Grayson starting 0-1, Buford is No. 1 in the first in-season High School Football America Georgia Top 25 powered by NFL Play Football, the NFL’s initiative to provide fun and engaging experience for players of all ages and skill levels.

The defending 6A champion Wolves grab the top spot on the strength of their 35-27 win over No. 10 North Cobb. Actually, Buford was in trouble in the third quarter, trailing 14-0. The Wolves ripped-off five consecutive scores to avenge last season’s loss to the Warriors.

No. 2 Colquitt County also needed a comeback to beat Marietta 28-25. The Packers picked-up the road win after trailing 18-7 in the third.

CC will face another test this week when the Packers face No. 15 Westlake.

In all, there will be five Top 25 head-to-head game this week.

The final two intra-Top 25 games are: No. 9 Blessed Trinity vs. No. 23 Marist and No. 5 Warner Robins playing No. 23 Archer.

The shock of the week was Creekside’s 19-14 defeat of defending 7A champ Grayson. The Seminoles soar into the statewide rankings at No. 12, while Grayson tumbles to No. 13.

Walton’s overtime win over top-ranked Lowndes puts the Raiders at No. 6 this week. Lowndes is No. 7 in this week’s Top 25.
