California announces CIF Regional Football Championship Bowl Games

When it comes to high school football state championships, California does things a little different. After playing for sectional championships over the past month, on Sunday the California Interscholastic Federation announced which of those champions would take part in the 2021 Regional Football Championship Bowl Games.

Coming-up this week, California high school football fans will get to enjoy regional semifinals in the northern and southern parts of the state in twelve divisions that will set-up the CIF State Championships the following weekend. However, the championships in the state’s biggest and smallest divisions are already set.

In the CIF Open Division, Mater Dei, ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, will try to win its third national championship on December when it plays Serra High School from San Mateo. The Padres were handpicked by the CIF’s 10 section commissioners.

There won’t be an semifinal games in Division 7-A. Los Angeles’ Taft High School will play Balboa High from San Francisco for the title on December 11.

Mater Dei vs. Serra (San Mateo) – Saturday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. at Saddleback College
