Former National Football League running back Napoleon Kaufman is back coaching high school football. Dublin High School in northern California, southeast of Oakland, has hired the former first round NFL Draft pick as the school’s new head coach.

In 2016, Kaufman led Oakland’s Bishop O’Dowd to a state championship. In six years at O’Dowd, Kaufman led the program to a 51-25 record with three league championships.

During his high school days at Lompoc (California), Kaufman rushed for 5,151 yards and 86 touchdowns. He closed out his senior season with a CIF-Southern Section championship.

Kaufman then was a two-time All-American at the University of Washington. In 1995, the Oakland Raiders took him with the 18th overall pick in the NFL Draft. During his six year professional career, he rushed for 4,792 yards with 12 touchdowns.

In addition to returning to the sideline, Kaufman is currently the Senior Pastor of The Well Christian Community in Livermore. He’s also a nationally acclaimed speaker and youth mentor.

“One of the most rewarding experiences in my life has been working with young athletes, inspiring them to reach their potential and showing them the beauty of teamwork, commitment, and perseverance,” said Kaufman on DublinGaels.com. “I enjoy helping young men and women become better athletes and also better human beings. Dublin High has a great tradition of athletics success and I hope to add to that legacy as the new head coach of Dublin High football.”
