While California still doesn’t have a true state tournament, this weekend it plays what could be called its state semifinals, otherwise known as the Regional Football Championship Bowl Games. The California Interscholastic Federation “semifinals” are played in the the north and south parts of the state featuring the state’s section champions.

It’s all led by the the Open Division, which doesn’t play regional football championship bowl games. Instead, in two weeks St. John Bosco, No. 1 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, will play No. 7 De La Salle in what could be considered the national championship game, since SJB would claim the national title with a victory.
