California Top 25 high school football rankings heading into state championships

The big question heading into this weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation State Football Bowl Championship games is can Serra (San Mateo) derail Mater Dei’s drive for a third High School Football America national championship in five years?

The top-ranked Monarchs, who are also No. 1 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, will play No. 5 Serra on Saturday night in the Open Division championship game at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

After losing three-out-of-four games in October, Folsom continues its strong postseason fun with a 28-27 defeat of former No. 5 De La Salle. Folsom moves-up five spots to No. 12 in the latest California Top 25.

This week, Folsom plays No. 8 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) for the Division 1-AA championship game.

The Division 1-A championship game will feature No. 20 Serra (Gardena) taking-on No. 21 Liberty (Bakersfield).
