The end to Friday night’s Indiana 6A state championship game between defending state champ Center Grove, ranked #21 in the High School Football America National Top 25, and Carmel wasn’t good for those weak of heart as Carmel won the state title with a 16-13 win in overtime.
Carmel’s Jerome Halsell scored with 46 seconds to go to give Carmel (10-4) a 13-10 lead. Center Grove (12-2) then drove 39 yards in 45 seconds to set-up a 50-yard field goal by Luke Eckert as time expired, which sent the game to overtime.
Then in overtime, Conner Coghlan kicked a 20-yard field goal to give Carmel the win.
