Cary-Grove upsets nationally-ranked East St. Louis for Illinois 6A title

For the second time in three years, Cary-Grove is the Illinois Class 6A high school football champ after surprising nationally-ranked East St. Louis. The unranked Trojans overcame a five-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the Flyers 23-20. ESL entered the game ranked No. 41 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

The winning touchdown was scored with 1:19 to play in the game by sophomore fullback Logan Abrams on a two-yard run. Abrams then scored on the two-point conversion attempt.

Cary-Grove sealed the victory with an interception.
