After several years of rumors that he’d be leaving the high school game for the next level, Cedar Hill head coach Joey McGuire is heading to Baylor, according to the Dallas Morning News. McGuire’s hiring now means that new Baylor coach Matt Rhule has hired three Texas high school coaches — McGuire, David Wetzel from San Antonio Reagan and Cedar Ridge‘s Shawn Bell, who played quarterback for Baylor.
McGuire won three state titles at Cedar Hill posted a 141-42 record in his 14 years as the head coach. The state titles came in 2006, 2013 and 2014.
This year, Cedar Hill started #3 in the High School Football America Preseason National Top 25, but slipped out of our national poll after a 3-2 start that included losses to nationally-ranked Bishop Gorman (Nevada) and DeSoto (Texas). The Longhorns bounced back, advancing to the Class 6A Division II quarterfinals where they lost their second game of the year to DeSoto. Cedar Hill entered that game ranked #45 in our national rankings.
Earlier in the year, McGuire joins us on the High School Football America Radio Show. You can listen to that interview below.
