The first two high school football championship trophies will be handed Saturday in Alaska.
Five-time defending state champ Soldotna (9-0), ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America Alaska Top 5, squares-off against Palmer for the Division II championship, which used to be the Medium School division. The Stars currently have the second longest active win streak in America at 58 straight.

Palmer (5-4), which will playing the championship on its home field, is led by Rod Christiansen, the state’s all-time leader in coaching wins. Christensen, in his 27th season as head coach at his alma mater, has won 153 games.
In Division III, the Barrow Whalers, the only team located above the Arctic Circle, will play Homer for the state title. Neither team has every won a state title, although Barrow finished runner-up in 2011. Homer lost to Soldotna in the 2012 Medium School championship game.
The Division I championship will be played next weekend. The semis are this weekend with Chugiak playing Barlett and West playing East.
