Chicago’s Mount Carmel moves to the top of the HSFA Illinois Top 10

With its season opening 36-33 win over preseason No. 1 East St. Louis, Mount Carmel moves to No. 1 in the first in-season High School Football America Illinois Top 10 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The loss drops the Flyers to No. 2 in the statewide rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.

Up next for East St. Louis will be a showdown with national power St. Frances Academy from Maryland. After an 0-2 start against No. 5 Buford (Georgia) and No. 10 Chaminade-Madonna (Florida), SFA is ranked No. 13 in the HSFA 300. ESL is No. 51 this week.

This week’s in-state Game of the Week will be in Batavia where a couple of 2022 runner-ups will square-off. No. 6 Batavia, the ’22 7A runner-up, will host 8A runner-up Lincoln-Way East, ranked No. 5 in the Top 10.

Glenbard West breaks into the Top 10 at No. 8 after beating preseason No. 7 Marist 7-6.
