Dave Mills of Wauconda named Chicago Bears Week 3 Coach of the Week; Hector Ramirez of Chicago Academy named High School All-Star

The Chicago Bears announced today that head coach Dave Mills of Wauconda High School in Wauconda has been named the Chicago Bears High School “Coach of the Week” for Week 3 and running back/linebacker Héctor Ramirez of Chicago Academy High School in Chicago was named the Chicago Bears “High School All-Star.” The “Coach of the Week” and “High School All-Stars” programs are brought to you by Athletico Physical Therapy. The Bears will make a $2,000 donation to the Wauconda HS football program and direct a $500 donation to the youth football program of Ramirez’s choice.

About “Coach of the Week” & “High School All-Star”

The Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program was launched in 1996 and “High School All-Star” program in 2011. The “Coach of the Week” program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players’ football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities. The nomination criteria for the “High School All-Star” program includes on-field performance, community involvement and good sportsmanship. Deserving high school coaches and players are nominated by a panel of local prep authorities and the winning player is selected each week from August 27-October 23. Since the program’s inception, the Bears have donated more than $326,500 to Illinois high schools in support of their football programs. Dave Mills

Mills and the Bulldogs (3-0) have yet to allow a point this season after winning 69-0 vs. Proviso West (Week 1 ), 20-0 at Riverside-Brookfield (Week 2) and 42-0 at Grant Community (Week 3). Mills played tight end at Brigham Young University and was part of their 1984 championship team; he spent two seasons as a free agent in the NFL with Washington (1985) and New England (1986). He also teaches a number of courses at Wauconda HS, including accounting, sports marketing, economics and computer apps. The Bulldogs host Grayslake Central (3-0) tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Héctor Ramirez

The senior running back/linebacker posted six carries for 142 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns 83 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown and 10 tackles in the Cougars’ 34-8 victory at Roosevelt (1-2); he is tied for the IHSA lead with eight total touchdowns on the season. Ramirez is a three-year team captain and president of Chicago Academy’s Manhood First Male Mentoring Club, which includes community service, motivational speaking and more. Chicago Academy (2-1) will play at Senn (3-0) today at 4:15 p.m.
