If St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California) wins its second straight High School Football America national championship in 2023, it will do so against one of the toughest schedules in the nation. On Thursday, the Braves unveiled their ’23 schedule that features games against nine teams that finished last season in the final 2022 HSFA 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

In addition to its uber-tough Trinity League schedule, SJB, which has won two High School Football America national titles since 2019, will play two teams that won state titles in 2022 — St. Thomas Aquinas, 7A Florida champ and Kahuku, Hawaii Open Division champ.

Last year, STA finished No. 3 in our national rankings after winning its fourth straight title. It will be the second meeting between the two national powers. In 2017, the Raiders beat Bosco 9-3 in overtime in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in a nationally televised game. Bosco entered that game as High School Football America’s Preseason No. 1. Like the ’17 contest, this year’s game will also be played in the Sunshine State.

The Bosco/Kahuku game on September 16 will be a rematch of last year’s game in Bellflower won by the Braves 34-7.

Bosco opens the season against Nevada’s Liberty High. The Patriots finished No. 193 in the nation last year.

After a home game against No. 209 Miami Norland, the Braves will host national power St. Frances Academy of Maryland. The Panthers, who always play tough national slate, finished No. 7 in the nation last year.

When the calendar turns to Trinity League play, all eyes will be on the annual battle against No. 4 Mater Dei. The Monarchs will be playing their first season under Frank McManus, Jr., who takes-over for Bruce Rollinson, who retired at the end of the 2022 season.
