DeSoto and Duncanville lead 2023 Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A All-State Team

State champs DeSoto and Duncanville, who were able to defend their 2022 titles this past season, placed four players each on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A All-State Team.

Abrams, a junior EDGE rusher, was named the 6A Defensive Player of the Year. The 205-pounder Abrams 90 tackles, 21 of them sacks.

He’s joined on the first team by junior wide receiver Daylon Singleton, senior guard Ronnell McLain and senior linebacker Brendan Booker.

DeSoto head coach Claude Mathis is the 6A Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to the Division II state title with a 16-0 record. The Eagles finished No. 8 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

Duncanville’s first team honorees are senior running back Caden Durham, junior wide receiver Dakorien Moore and senior defensive linemen Alex January and Colin Simmons. They led the Panthers to the Division I title and a No. 10 ranking in the HSFA 300.

The 6A Offensive Player of the year is D.J. Langway of Willis. He threw for 4,604 yards with 58 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Florida signee also rushed for 957 yards, averaging 9.7 yards per carry. The 225-pounder was also the Gatorade National Player of the Year.
