For the last four years, Detroit Martin Luther King head coach Tyrone Spencer never had to worry about who his quarterback would be. Since 2019, Dante Moore has been the Crusaders signal caller, leading the school to three Michigan state finals with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

Moore’s outstanding senior season and career has led him to being named the High School Football America National Player of the Year, powered by the National High School Coaches Association.

“Dante is an incredible human being and a dynamic football player,” said Coach Spencer, who is the 2022 Detroit Lions Coach of the Year and a finalist for the Don Shula NFL High School Football Coach of the Year. “Since his freshman year people have always doubted him and he’s beat the odds every time. He worked hard to earn everything that has come his way. I’m really proud of the leader he is and excited about his future.”

Moore closed-out his scholastic career by leading King to its second straight Michigan Division 3 title. He tossed four touchdown passes in the championship game against Muskegon. For his senior season, he threw for 2,392 yards and 32 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Moore also ran for 282 yards and five touchdowns.

The 6-2, 210-pound, 5-star college football recruit, who will play his college ball at UCLA, passed for 9,862 yards with 130 touchdowns during his four years.

In his final high school game last Saturday, Moore was named the MVP in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. He threw four touchdowns in the East’s 55-17 win over the West.

In the classroom, Moore maintains a 3.74 weighted GPA.

Last week, Moore was named the Gatorade Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.
