DeWitt beats defending champ River Rouge for Michigan Division 3 championship

After five times as a bridesmaid, DeWitt is finally a Michigan high school football state champ. Saturday night, the Panthers beat defending Division 3 champ River Rouge 40-30 at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.

DeWitt built a 27-8 lead on the way to giving head coach Rob Zimmerman his first state championship in 22 years as the Panthers’ head coach.

Quarterback Ty Holtz tossed five TD passes in the victory.
