Fayetteville (12-1) is now the two-time Arkansas high school football Class 7A champs.  The Bulldogs, who began the season ranked in the High School Football America National Top 50 and are currently #1 in our statewide rankings, beat North Little Rock 53-19 Friday night for the school’s second straight title.

NLR actually had a 20-19 lead early in the second half.  Fayetteville senior quarterback Taylor Powell, who has given his verbal commitment to Wake Forest, was 15-of-26 for 265 yards and four touchdowns.

Savana Melton became the first female football player to score in an Arkansas state championship game when she kicked an extra point for North Little Rock in the first quarter.

North Little Rock finishes 2016 with a 12-1 overall record.  The Wildcats were looking for their first state title since 1972. Fayetteville has now won four state titles since 2011.
