History was made September 15 when DuSable and Fenger High Schools hit the gridiron in Chicago.
The game marked the first time in America that two female head coaches battled in a boys’ high school football game. Fenger’s Jouscelyn Mayfield and DuSable’s Konesha Rhea are also the first two Black female head football coaches Chicago Public League history.
As a result of the historic matchup, the Chicago Bears named Coach Mayfield and Coach Rhea as the team’s Week 4 High School Coaches of the Week.

Fenger won the game 50-0, giving Mayfield her first victory in her first season with the Titans. She followed-up that win with an 18-12 victory this past Friday that gives Fenger a 2-3 record this year.
Coach Rhea is in her second season at DuSable.
After the win, Mayfield told the Chicago Sun-Times, It’s an honor. She’s (Coach Rhea) a legend. Me? I’m just me, but she’s the one that first broke down those barriers.”
Rhea told the newspaper, “A horrible loss. But it’s a win for the sport, a win for girls and women looking to coach football.”
