Florida approves Open Division for high school football

Florida approves an open division for high school football in 2026.

The Florida High School Athletic Association has approved the addition of a new 8-team Open Division for all team sports, including high school football. Under the proposal, the state’s governing body would use the MaxPreps rankings to determine the top eight teams that would go into the Open Division.

The new division would not come into being until the 2026 season.
