Florida leads 2024 NFL Draft with 30 former high school football players taken

Florida led the way with 29 former high school football players taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.

For the third time in the last four years, Florida had the most former high school football players taken in the NFL Draft. The Sunshine State had 30 former players taken over the three-day 2024 draft in Detroit, Michigan.

Overall, Florida was one of 38 states that had former high schoolers selected during the seven rounds. Four players were also selected from the District of Columbia. The international scene was represented with picks from Australia (1), Canada (4) and England (1).

Following Florida was Texas with 24 former scholastic players. Georgia was one behind the Lone Star State with 23 players, followed by California with 18 players. Louisiana and New Jersey each had 11 players picked. Alabama, Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio each had ten former high school football players drafted.

Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada and IMG Academy in Florida had the most former players taken. Each had three alums selected.

Gorman’s picks were wide receiver Rome Odunze (No. 9, Chicago Bears), safety Jaden Hicks (No. 133 Kansas City Chiefs) and linebacker Edefuan Alofoshio (No. 160, Buffalo Bills).

IMG had two first round picks — offensive tackle JC Latham at No. 7 by the Tennessee Titans and quarterback J.J. McCarthy at No. 10 by the Minnesota Vikings. EDGE rusher Xavier Thomas was selected at No. 138 by the Arizona Cardinals.
