The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Metro/Suburban alignment is gone. On Tuesday, the FHSAA Board of Directors voted 9-4 to scrap the controversial alignment that has been used over the last two seasons. The BOD also voted 9-4 in-favor district play.

The FHSAA will now go to a system with teams placed in eight classifications. The smallest 32 high school football teams will be in a rural classification (1R) with the rest of the schools being placed from 1A to 7A based on enrollment figures.

There was also conversation about creating an Open Division that would be made-up of the eight top teams in the state. However, that conversation was put on the back-burner.

We’ll learn the district and classification set-ups for 2024-25 and 2025-26 in the near future.
