Former National Football League star wide receiver Andre Rison is the interim head football coach at University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, outside of Detroit. Rison has been elevated from his offensive coordinator position.

He takes over after former Canadian Football League quarterback Kevin Glenn resigned to take the head coaching position at U-D Jesuit.

“We expect him to coach the whole season,” University Liggett athletic director Leython Williams told The Detroit News. “Coach Andre has committed to us long term and has expressed to me directly that he wants to be the guy to build up our program. We just put it as an interim basis because our school has certain hiring protocols that we like to follow when we look to bring on a long-term replacement, so we just want to make sure we follow those guidelines and the process but we fully expect Coach Rison to be here for a long time.”

This isn’t Rison’s first high school head coaching job. In 2010 and 2011, the former All-Pro receiver led his alma mater, Northwestern High School in Flint, Michigan. He’s also held assistant jobs at Beecher High in Flint and Skyline HS in Ann Arbor.

Rison was selected No. 22 overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1989 NFL Draft. He was named an All-Pro five times and won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, catching the first touchdown pass in Super Bowl XXXI.

In addition to the Colts and Packers, Rison played with the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. He finished his career with 743 catches for 10,205 yards with 84 touchdowns.
