The move back to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, continues to pay off for the Georgia high school football championships. The Georgia High School Association announced that attendance for last month’s twelve state championship games set a record.
According to Georgia High School Football Daily, 51,588 fans paid to watch the eight tackle and four flag championship games over three days in mid-December. Overall 56,051 watched the title games.
It’s the first time ever that paid attendance topped 50,000. Compared to 2023, the overall numbers were up 5-percent (49,126 paid) and 7.6-percent (52,089 overall) in the two categories.
The GHSA championship games returned to Mercedes-Benz in 2023 after three years at Georgia State’s Center Parc Stadium.
GHSFD reports that the average attendance at that outside venue was 26,971 paid fans.
