Jon Richt is the new head football coach at Prince Avenue Christian (Georgia), according to Todd Holcomb of the Atlanta Journal Constitution and Georgia High School Football Daily. Richt, who is the son of former Georgia head coach Mark Richt, is being elevated after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
Richt replaces Greg Vandagriff, who, in nine seasons, won three state championships and 107 games. Vandagriff’s record was 107-16.
According to a news release from the school: “After graduating from Prince, Coach Richt attended Clemson and Mars Hill Universities and was a member of their football teams. During his senior year at Mars Hill, he set several school records in completions, attempts, yards, and touchdown passes as the team’s quarterback.”
The news release goes on to state:
Coach Richt started his coaching career as a quality control assistant with the University of Georgia before joining the National Football League’s New York Buffalo Bills. Following his time with the Bills, he served three years as the quarterbacks coach for the University of Miami Hurricanes.
We are confident Coach Richt’s extensive experience, passion for football, spiritual maturity, and deep-rooted connection to Prince will inspire our student-athletes to achieve new heights as we transition to an exciting new chapter for our football program,” said PAC Athletic Director Richard Ricketts via the news release.
This past season PAC was going after a three-peat, but lost to Hebron Christian in Georgia’s Private 1A-3A classification.
In 2022, Prince Avenue finished No. 212 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, after a perfect 14-0 season.
