It’s only Week 3, but we have a state championship-quality game that will determine the top of next week’s High School Football America Georgia Top 25, powered by NFL Play Football.

Top-ranked Buford will host No. 2 North Cobb Friday night. Both teams are also highly-ranked nationally in the HSFA 300. The Wolves, after impressive wins against three-time Alabama 7A champ Thompson and North Carolina Mallard Creek, are ranked No. 3 in the nation. North Cobb is No. 20 in America.

NC dropped four spots from its preseason national ranking after a come-from-behind 21-17 win against No. 13 Westlake. The Warriors are coming into the Buford game after a bye week.

As far as the latest rankings, Walton is our biggest mover. The Raiders are up two spots to No. 7 after beating Brookwood last weekend. Brookwood drops from No. 8 to No. 9 this week.

Brookwood will try to rebound this week when it faces No. 10 Collins Hill, which, like North Cobb, had a bye week last week.

Another Top 25 head-to-head will take place in Milton where the Eagles host No. 23 Roswell on Friday. The No. 11 Eagles are 0-2, but both losses came against nationally-ranked out-of-state opponents — No. 23 Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee) and No. 60 Christian Brothers College (Missouri).

No. 12 Cedar Grove travels to Westlake Friday night in the fourth battle between Top 25 teams.

Two other teams play tough out-of-state teams that are nationally-ranked this weekend.

No. 4 Grayson takes-on South Carolina’s Fort Dorchester, ranked No. 192 nationally. No. 18 Creekside plays No. 49 Dutch Fork, winners of five South Carolina 5A titles in the last six years.
