Stephenville Yellow Jackets footballIs Stephenville head coach Joe Gillespie on the road to a head coaching at the college level?  Considering Gillespie’s two predecessors are now college head coaches, the odds may be with him.

Friday, Gillespie resigned as the program’s head coach to become a linebackers coach at the University of Tulsa.

Chad Morris, who is the new head coach at SMU, preceded Gillespie.  Morris was 49-10 at Stephenville before leaving to take the head coaching job at Lake Travis.  Back in the 90’s, Stephenville won four state titles under Art Briles, who is the current head coach at Baylor.

Gillespie led the Yellow Jackets to the 2012 Texas Class 3A Division I title, while advancing to the playoffs six of the seven years he was there.  His overall record was 72-23.
