The California Interscholastic Federation is adding girls’ flag football as a sanctioned sport for the 2023-24 sports season. On Friday, the state’s governing body approved the sanctioning by a vote of 146-0.

Girls’ flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in America thanks to NFL teams throwing their support into it.

In California, the Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers have all had a big hand in growing the sport.

On Wednesday, New York announced that it was adding girls’ flag as an official varsity sport in 2024.
