Gonzaga (DC) holds on to beat No. 15 DeMatha (MD)

Gonzaga ran-out to a 19-0 halftime lead, extended to 26-0 into the fourth quarter and then held-on to beat DeMatha, ranked No. 15 in the latest High School Football America Top 100 national rankings, 26-20 in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.

In the fourth quarter DeMatha quarterback Eric Najarian tossed three touchdown passes to close the Eagles’ lead to 26-20.  On the final drive of the game, Najarian drove the Stags to the Gonzaga 36, but that’s where the Eagle defense came-up with the sack and the upset victory.

Gonzaga freshman QB Caleb Williams threw two TD victories in the victory.

Gonzaga is now 6-1 and 2-0 in the WCAC.  DeMatha, which has won four straight WCAC titles, is 4-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
