Happy Halloween! Bats, Ghosts, Witches and Wizards

Trick or Treat and Happy Halloween to all. I thought it would be fun to take a look at schools that have Halloween-type nicknames.

halloweenUsing the website High School Nicknames, I found six school football teams known as the Ghosts or a version of…like Abington High School in suburban Philadelphia that is known as the Galloping Ghosts.

Actually, Abington is one of two Galloping Ghosts in high school football. Kaukauna High in Wisconsin is the other.

Eastside in Paterson, New Jersey is just the Ghosts, while Illinois Valley Central (Illinois) and Westford Academy (Massachusetts) are the Grey Ghosts and Alexandria Central in New York is the Purple Ghosts.

There are three teams known as the Witches — Brewer (Maine), Greenwich (New York) and of course, the Salem Witches in Massachusetts. And, then there are the three teams that are the male version of witches — the Wizards. Washingtonville (New York), West Warwick (Rhode Island) and Windsor (Colorado) are known as the Wizards.

And, we wrap-up with the Bats from Belfry High in Montana.
