High School Football America 300 national high school football rankings powered by NFL Play Football

With the calendar changing to October, the High School Football America 300 national championship chase heads into the second half of the regular season.

Mater Dei (California) heads into October with a possible fifth HSFA national title clearly in its sight. The Monarchs are in complete control of their destiny with all six Trinity League teams ranked between No. 1 and No. 46 in our national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

MD opens Trinity League play this Friday on the road against No. 41 Santa Margarita.

No. 2 St. John Bosco, which will play Mater Dei on October 25, opens league play this week at home against No. 12 Orange Lutheran.

The third Trinity League game this weekend will be in San Juan Capistrano where No. 36 JSerra hosts No. 46 Servite.

With Mater Dei and St. John Bosco playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation over the next two months, No. 3 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) has one of the easiest. However, a weak strength of schedule isn’t a positive for the Gaels in the HSFA’s algorithm.

Also hurting BG’s national championship hopes is the Gaels have already lost to Mater Dei.

In Gorman’s final five regular season games, the Gaels only ranked opponent is No. 124 Arbor View on October 10.

If No. 4 Milton (Georgia) runs the table in its final four regular season games, it’s likely that Eagles may overtake Gorman, since two of their opponents are in our Top 100. The Eagles will play No. 90 Gainesville on October 11 and No. 99 Roswell on November 1.

No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) has been rolling is its season opening loss to Bishop Gorman. The Raiders, who have won five straight, still have games against No. 31 Chaminade-Madonna (Florida), No. 35 American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) and No. 116 Monarch (Florida).

DeMatha (Maryland) jumps 18 spots this week to No. 25. The Stags, who have won three straight since their season opening loss to No. 8 Archbishop Spalding (Maryland), beat former No. 22 Massillon Washington (Ohio) 20-14 last Friday. The Tigers fall from No. 22 to No. 26 in the latest rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.

Mission Viejo (California) has cracked the Top 25 after moving from No. 30 to No. 22 this week. The Diablos, who are now 6-0, are likely to find themselves in the extremely competitive CIF-Southern Section I playoffs with all of the Trinity League teams and another highly-ranked Southern California team.

As far as newbies to the HSFA 300, there are ten new teams this week:

  • No. 193 Euless Trinity (Texas)
  • No. 220 St. Ignatius College Prep (California)
  • No. 233 Neville (Louisiana)
  • No. 250 Piper (Florida)
  • No. 263 West Orange (Florida)
  • No. 280 Parker (Birmingham, Alabama)
  • No. 284 Carver Montgomery (Alabama)
  • No. 286 Charlotte Catholic (North Carolina)
  • No. 290 Central (Fresno, California)
  • No. 294 Pine-Richland (Pennsylvania)
