Detroit’s Martin Luther King High School is the new No. 1 in the latest High School Football America Michigan Top 10 that is created with our proprietary algorithm. The two-time defending state champs get to the top spot thanks to former No. 1 Utica Eisenhower’s loss in the state quarterfinals last week to West Bloomfield.
This week in the Division 2 semis, MLK will face No. 4 De La Salle Collegiate for the right to play for a third straight state championship. The last team other than the Crusaders to win a Division 2 title was De La Salle in 2014.
There are three ranked teams in the Division 1 semifinals — No. 3 and defending state champ Cass Tech plays No. 8 West Bloomfield and No. 9 Detroit Catholic Central meets Clarkston. Cass Tech won last year’s title with a 49-20 win over DCC.
