As we mentioned earlier this week, we’re expanding our coverage of New York City high school football with the help of former St. Peter’s (Staten Island) head football coach Mark DeCristoforo who is now a contributor for us.
As part of our expansion, we’re going to be releasing three new weekly rankings — a New York City Top 10, a CHSFL/PSAL Top 10 and a Long Island Top 10. All three will be created with our proprietary algorithm that we use for the High School Football America 100 national rankings and our statewide rankings. For those not familiar with our algorithm, we use over a dozen criteria to rank teams.
This poll is only for teams in the five Boroughs of New York City. So without further ado, below is the New York City Top 10:
High School Football America New York City Top 10
No. 1 Monsignor Farrell (4-0)
No. 2 Cardinal Hayes (0-2)
No. 3 Christ the King (1-3)
No. 4 South Shore (4-0)
No. 5 Tottenville (4-0)
No. 6 Erasmus Hall (3-1)
No. 7 Moore Catholic (4-0)
No. 8 Midwood (4-0)
No. 9 Abraham Lincoln (3-1)
No. 10 Bayside (4-0)
Editor’s Note: The High School Football America national, regional and state rankings are developed using our proprietary algorithm.
Now, with our first New York City poll out there, look for some changes next week because there are three head-to-head matchups this weekend — No. 2 Cardinal Hayes vs. No. 3 Christ the King, No. 4 South Shore taking-on No. 5 Tottenville in a huge Public League Athletic League showdown and No. 6 Erasmus Hall faces Midwood in another big PSAL contest.
Coach DeCristoforo will be covering the Tottenville/South Shore game, plus the Catholic High School Football League showdown between top-ranked Monsignor Farrell and Iona Prep, which is ranked No. 2 in the High School Football America New York Top 10 statewide rankings. Farrell is No. 3 in the statewide rankings. He’ll also be covering the CHSFL game between Xavier and St. Peter’s.
