The pads began popping in the Volunteer State Monday with the first official day of practice.
Three teams in Tennessee are ranked in the High School Football America Preseason 100 — No. 31 Brentwood Academy, No. 56 Oakland and No. 77 Maryville. Five other teams — Alcoa, Ensworth, Farragut, Knoxville Catholic and Montgomery Bell Academy — received honorable mention in our preseason rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.

Everyone is looking forward to August 24 when defending Class 6A champ Maryville collides with Oakland. The Rebels beat Oakland in the state semifinals, which avenged a 17-14 regular season victory by the Patriots that snapped Maryville’s 70-game regular season win streak.
On Saturday, I asked Oakland head coach Kevin Creasy what his Day 1 message would be to his team. Here’s what he said:
“Compete in everything you do….& hydrate!! It’s hotttttt!!!!”
According to The Tennessean, several teams — Donelson Christian Academy, FRA and Wayne County — kicked-off camp at midnight.
