Labor Day weekend will be a big one for high school football in Delaware. The inaugural Mid-Atlantic Pigskin Classic will feature six games from August 31 through September 2 at Salesianum’s Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington.
Taking centerstage will be the final between New Jersey and Pennsylvania powers St. Joseph’s Prep (Pennsylvania) and St. Peter’s Prep (New Jersey). Both teams finished last season in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
SJP, winners of seven Pennsylvania state titles, finished last year ranked No. 19 in the national rankings after capturing the state’s 6A championship. St. Peter’s finished No. 161 after a 7-4 season.

Another nationally-ranked team in the event will be Imhotep Charter (Pennsylvania). The Panthers, who finished runner-up in Pennsylvania’s Class 5A in 2022, will play The Haverford School (10-0 in 2022). Imhotep finished No. 242 in our national rankings.

The No.1 team in Delaware in 2022, Smyrna High School will play the historical Pennsylvania program, Manheim Central High School. The No.10 ranked team in Pennsylvania in 2022, Imhotep Institute Charter High School will play 2022 Inter-AC Champions, The Haverford School. The remaining games include some of the top programs in the Mid-Atlantic Area and we look forward to bringing the top high school programs to the Classic in the future.”
