High School Football’s No. 1 All-Purpose back — Will Shipley — gives verbal to Clemson

Will Shipley, who led Weddington to its second straight North Carolina high school football state championship and a No. 91 ranking in the High School Football America 100, wants to be a Clemson Tiger. On Tuesday, Shipley, the No. 1 all-purpose back in the 247Sports.com composite rankings, announced on Twitter that he was giving his verbal commitment to the Tigers.

Also in the running for Shipley’s services were N.C. State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Stanford.

Shipley, who is listed as 5-foot-11, 198-pound, ran for 2,066 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior.
