Higley’s second straight Arizona 5A high school football championship didn’t lack for excitement. For a while, it looked like the Knights would roll to back-to-back titles with a 42-13 lead against Desert Edge.

Not only was Desert Edge down by 29 points, but they were down 16 players, who were ejected in the second quarter after a brawl broke out with Higley up 22-7. Higley only had three players removed from the game.

An undermanned Desert Edge squad came all the way back to come within one point at 42-41 with no time on the clock. The Scorpions decided to go for a 2-point conversion and the win. DE converted, but it was called off on a holding call.
