Hometown Team: Cherokee Warriors 2022 schedule released

The 2022 Cherokee Warriors high school football schedule is out. This season will start a two-year run in a new region.

Before heading into Region 5-AAAAAAA play, the Warriors will play a non-league schedule that includes three games against Cherokee County teams — Etowah (August 26), Woodstock (September 2) and Sequoyah (September 9).

Cherokee will open the regular season at home at Tommy Baker Field on August 19 against Cartersville, which finished No. 111 in the High School Football America national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Cartersville is one of three teams on the schedule that finished in the Top 200 last year.

New region foes, North Cobb and Walton, both finished in the national rankings in 2021. North Cobb finished No. 64 in the nation last year. Walton, which advanced to the 7A state semifinals last season, finished the year ranked No. 107 in America.

In addition to North Cobb and Walton, Kennesaw Mountain, Osborne and Wheeler are in the region.

Cherokee’s fifth non-league game will be against West Forsyth.

The Warriors are coming-off a 5-6 season, which came to a close with a 28-21 loss to Norcross in the opening round of the 7A playoffs.
