Shockwaves were sent through the High School Football America 100 Friday night with No. 2 Buford (Georgia) and No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Maryland) tasting defeat for the first time in 2022.
Buford’s 16-game playoff win streak came to an end with a 42-35 loss to No. 71 Walton in the second round of the Georgia 7A playoffs. The three-time defending state champs fell victim to an outstanding effort by Walton quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski, who threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a score.
Up next for Walton will be No. 95 Carrollton in the state quarterfinals.
St. Frances Academy was beaten by No. 12 IMG Academy (Florida) 27-16, which snapped the Panthers 16-game win streak. IMG has now evened the all-time series between the two national powers at two wins apiece.
The rematch between No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 5 St. John Bosco is set in Southern California next week. Friday night, MD beat No. 48 Los Alamitos 52-0 and Bosco beat No. 29 Mission Viejo 41-6.
No. 4 Miami Central remains in the national championship conversation after beating arch-rival Miami Northwestern 34-30. The Bulls entered the South Florida battle ranked No. 36.
