Who will win the High School Football America national championship? This week’s schedule of games in the HSFA 100, powered by NFL Play Football, will go a long way to determining that.

On Friday night in Santa Ana, California, reigning national champ and No. 1 Mater Dei beat 2 St. John Bosco, giving the Monarchs the inside track to the national crown.

Saturday Games

No. 11 Archbishop Moeller (Ohio) improved to 8-0 with a 25-10 victory over No. 109 St. Ignatius (Ohio). Seven of Big Moe’s eight wins have come against teams ranked in the High School Football America 300 at the time they played.

In New York, No. 50 Iona Prep rebounded from its loss to St. Anthony’s (Melville). The Gaels beat No. 237 and previously undefeated Archbishop Stepinac 42-35 in the 76th game between the two rivals.

Ajani Sheppard amassed 405 total yards of total offense, according to LoHud.com, and threw three touchdowns.

Iona Prep now lead the all-time series 46-30.

Friday Games

Mater Dei’s 17-7 win over Bosco came before over 9,000 fans at the Santa Ana Bowl and a national television audience.

Miami Central wants people to know that they’re also in the national championship conversation. The No. 5 Rockets rolled by No. 28 Northwestern 47-7 in their annual South Florida battle before a sellout crowd.

In Georgia, No. 70 North Cobb beat No. 43 Walton 33-6 in the 7A Region 5 opener for both teams. Nick Grimstead continues to play well at quarterback for North Cobb, since Arkansas-recruit Malachi Singleton went down with a foot injury. Grimstead had three touchdowns Friday night.

Back to Florida where No. 76 Seminole (Sanford) won an overtime thriller over No. 56 Cocoa.

Thursday Games

In Tennessee, Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA) snapped No. 29 Oakland’s 36-game win streak. CPA jumped-out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back in the 35-14 victory over the two-time defending 6A champs. CPA junior running back Asher Keck ran for 169 yards and a touchdown.

In Texas, No. 45 Katy had no problems beating defending Class 5A Division I state champ Katy Paetow. The Tigers improve to 7-0 with a 54-0 shutout at Legacy Stadium.
