October is here and with it comes a plethora of head-to-head matchups in the High School Football America 100 powered by NFL Play Football. This weekend’s games will set the tone for our national championship chase.

After Friday night’s win over No. 4 St. John Bosco (California), top-ranked Mater Dei (California) controls its own destiny. If the Monarchs can run-the-table and win the California Open Division championship, the school will win its third High School Football America championship. Mater Dei won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.

Below are snapshots of some of the biggest games of the weekend.

Friday

SJB was one of four Top 25 teams to taste defeat Friday night.

No. 9 St. Xavier (Ohio) was surprised by previously winless Trinity (Kentucky) 33-32. Armon Tucker’s 1-yard touchdown run with :57 seconds proved to be the winning score.

Trinity plays one of the toughest schedules in America.

In New Jersey, No. 146 Don Bosco Prep handed No. 22 St. Peter’s Prep its first loss of the year. Junior running back Ronnie Heath’s three touchdowns spearheaded the 28-14 upset.

In Florida, No. 55 American Heritage edged No. 25 Cardinal Gibbons 23-20 in a battle of 2020 state champs. AH, the 5A champs, won its on a last second field goal by Julian Ramirez below.

No. 37 Chaminade-Madonna (Florida) continues to impress. For the second game in a row, the Lions handed their opponent their first loss of the year. Friday night, C-M came-from-behind to defeat No. 41 and defending 8A champ Seminole (Sanford, Florida) 26-23.

Two weeks ago, Chaminade-Madonna beat Georgia’s defending 6A champ Buford 7-0.

Thursday

No. 26 Servite (California) rolled to a 56-12 win in its Trinity League opener against No. 123 Orange Lutheran (California). Noah Fifita, an Arizona-committed completed 19 of 21 passes for 401 yards with five touchdowns.
