Two weeks into the postseason, we’re getting a good idea which teams are in the best position to win state championships in December.

No. 1. St. Joseph’s Prep is trying to make it took their eighth straight state championship game. Last week, the Hawks soared past No. 16 La Salle to make it into the Round of 16. Next up for SJP is unranked Abraham Lincoln.

There are five big games in 6A this week. No. 9 Pittsburgh Central Catholic plays No. 10 for the WPIAL championship. In their regular season matchup, Central won 50-22.

It will be the Battle for Bucks on the east side of the state. No. 7 Central Bucks West will face Top 25 newcomer Central Bucks South. CB South, who enters the statewide rankings at No. 24, looks to reverse its regular season loss (40-29) to the Bucks on October 20.

Then there’s the Battle of Downingtown Part II. No. 4 Downingtown East tangles with No. 23 Downingtown West. In the regular season finale, East crushed West 35-7

No. 12 Parkland and No. 17 Nazareth will meet for a second time this week. Parkland won the regular season battle 31-24 for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South Division title.

No. 11 Harrisburg faces No. 19 Central York for the right to advance to the state quarterfinals.

No. 2 Imhotep Charter gets a good test this week when it plays No. 6 Roman Catholic in the 5A tournament.

Pine-Richland flip-flops with Penn Hills this week. The P-R move from No. 14 to No. 13 after beating the Indians 16-9. It reversed a 26-20 loss to Penn Hills in the regular season.

Next up for Pine-Richland is No. 25 Peters Township for the WPIAL championship. The Indians break into the statewide rankings created with our proprietary algorithm after beating Moon in the semifinals.
