It has been crazy busy for this coach. Always running around. Haven’t had much time to jot some notes down since we played last week. I will try to catch you up in this blog. I know. I know. You cannot wait to hear (thick layer of sarcasm).
THE LUBBOCK-COOPER GAME
We did some good things against a team that played on ESPN and knocked off a number one ranked team in the state. 14-7 at halftime. We stood in and played with energy and enthusiasm. We grew up this game. Dae Dae Morgan and Devontae Greathouse had solid games for us. And how about our defense? Did a great job stuffing the run. Jacob Medrano and Steven Duke played tremendously.
We dropped the game 34-14. But we upped our own game.
Nine sophomores and a freshmen. Holding their own. Seniors battling. The next two weeks will define us and 2014.
THE MAD KATTER
It’s hard losing. It sucks. But losing to my man Max Kattwinkel makes it a little easier to digest. What a great guy, coach and friend. He did a great job in the second half against us. The game really turned when they surprised onside kicked us. Great call by him and at a great time. Sometimes you need to tip your hat.
Katt and his staff are great. Our friendship will last a lifetime, even though we battle once a year. This is what high school football is all about!
THE CHIEFS
This week the Westerners get ready for the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs. Huge, huge, huge….huge game for both teams. The winner of this is likely to clinch a playoff spot.
Lake View has really improved and their kids are tough. They work hard. Their staff has done a great job. Basically, two teams are going to duke it out on Friday. It’s going to be a slugfest.
Playoffs on the line. It comes down to who plays better and who makes the fewest mistakes.
This is why I came to Texas.
RANDOMNESS
– The Royals will win the World Series. It’s 1-1 right now. Going KC.
– I see players were cut in the NFL this week. It happens every year. It’s tough to see every player who has been cut have their dream of playing in the NFL cut short. Yes, all of them. They are all football players who ALL lost their dream. ALL the cut players lost their dream. ALL.
– You read it here first. I’m tired of the tempo, no huddle offense. Saturday’s are becoming a joke. Ready for the new fad to hit.
– Taking Fisher bull riding when he visits here next week. Can’t wait!
That’s it. More tomorrow. Enjoy your day. Enjoy your time. Make every day count!
