When it rains, it pours here!
Lubbock has some crazy weather. This is the most it has rained here since I moved here. We need the rain so why not just embrace it? It makes for good football weather, too.
Since it was raining so hard and we had lightning in the area, we moved practice inside to our indoor practice facility. Have I said that Texas is awesome? I think I have. Yeah, so we just practiced inside. Didn’t skip a beat. Full contact. Live tackling, blocking. Just rolled with the day as usual. Good stuff from the Westerners today.
So far, I pretty pleased with practice this week. The attitude has been good and the mental side of this has been there. You need to be resilient. I believe this group of Westerners has the guts to pull off what we want to accomplish this season. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish!
A BIG THANK YOU
This goes out to my two elder statesmen, David Moody and Jinks White. These guys have been coaching a long time and they are a critical piece to our puzzle here. They have sound advice for the young coaches. They know the game. They are just good for kids and our program here. Thank you isn’t said enough so I wanted to make sure I threw them one during the big rivalry week we have this week.
Tremendous coaches! Thanks for all you do, fellas!
GOING GRAY
Very pleased that Under Armour shipped us jerseys for our game this week. We hit a snag with our home black jersey order. Until they get there, we will wear gray at home. They came out sharp. Cardinals Sporting Goods came through in the clutch for us. Much, much appreciated. The guys over there, John Cardinal and Daniel Walker really do a lot for us. We are very fortunate to have them on our side.
The kids like the jerseys and that is all that matters!
RANDOMNESS
– I have had a bad week; it can only get better.
– Mike Trout is one heck of a baseball player. Wow.
– Read a story about a 9/11 photo found in the wreckage of the WTC being returned to it’s owner. Cool stuff! It was all because of the persistence and drive of Professor E. Stringer Keefe. Great sorry and a terrific reminder of how good the human race can be at times.
– Iron Maiden is the music of choice before games for me. Sometimes I wish I was still playing.
Let’s hope for some dry weather on Friday! Have a great rest of the week and continue to FIO!!!
