Irvington wins New York Jets’ New Jersey girls’ high school flag football championship

Irvington is the 2022 New Jersey state champ for Season 2 of the New York Jets‘ girls’ flag football league. The school won the championship Saturday at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center by beating Hawthorne 33-6.

The day began with the Irvington beating Ridgewood in the semifinals. Hawthorne defeated Hillside to advance to the championship. Hawthorne, Irvington and Ridgewood entered the Final 4 with undefeated records.

Since being introduced in February 2021, the league has expanded from eight schools to 43 and one conference to five, with over 1,000 participants, across both Long Island and New Jersey.
