It’s Official, No. 2 St. John Bosco to play No. 33 San Mateo Serra for California Open Division championship

St. John Bosco will be looking for its third overall California Interscholastic Federal state football championship in two weeks when it faces Serra (San Mateo) on December 10 at Saddleback College.

Sunday, the CIF announced that Bosco, ranked No. 2 in the latest High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football, will play the undefeated Padres, ranked No. 33 in our national rankings.

SJB advances to the Open Division championship after a 24-22 win over former No. 1 and reigning HSFA national Mater Dei for the Southern Section Division 1 title. Serra beat Archbishop Mitty 41-14 for the Central Coast sectional crown.

Bosco won the 2019 Open Division title with a 49-28 win over De La Salle. That led the Braves to winning our ‘19 national title. Bosco also beat DLS for the 2013 title.

This will be Serra’s second straight appearance in the Open Division championship. Last year, the Padres were blown-out 44-7 by Mater Dei.
